After Two Weeks
 

So after two weeks of owning a Jeep, i have a few newbie questions if someone can help!

1. Watching the video, it states that when opening the soft top half way, we are suppose to use straps to hold down the bars. Are these little straps hidden some where?

2. Any tips on opening and closing the soft top with one person?

3. Can I fold/roll the side rear and back windows so I can bring it with me incase it rains?

jlau76, congratulations on your new Jeep, best ride on (or off) the road!!! Welcome.

Its great that Jeep provides a video on softtop use and operation....it's beside me they didn't think to do so when I got mine.

It's takes a bit to get use to but in no time you'll make the land speed record, up or down.

The straps are not hidden, or intigrated into the top, they were shipped along with the other bits and pieces. If you cant find them, no worries I replaced mine with rubber hold down traps I got from CTC or the dollar store. Their purpose is to keep the sunruner in place and not come slamming down while in motion.

Make sure all the clips ect are loose, and I usually stand on one side by the front door handle, and lift the sun runner section up, making sure to creat the W as you fold it back.

When going all the way down, one hand on rear corner, the other on the sun runner hinge.

(please look at the video when you read this...maybe my words will make sense)

I roll up my rear window all the time as use the loop straps lcoated at the top of the window to secure it.

to roll my windows i do this, and it works great....
go buy about 15 feet of cloth material, something soft and non abrasive. place the rear window on it and then cover it up with the cloth, place another window on top, cover it up with the cloth, place the 3rd window on it, and again cover it up with the cloth, roll up the windows and velcro strap the roll once done. it fits nice behind the rear seat. i found an old soft top that was no good and i used some of that (about 4 ft wide x 4 ft long) to do a final wrap so it's waterproof. This way the windows are protected from scratches and abuse.

So you can roll the side windows even though there's that guide rail on 2 sides? I want to roll them but I am afraid of breaking it or bending it so that the rails will never be straight again.

you can roll them, not super tight, but yea. they even sell "window rolls" I think cloverpatch makes one. but its a waste of money, do what the above poster said and just buy some fabric like felt to roll them in and then velco strap or bunjy cord it and throw it in the back of the jeep.

to put up my top myself I get in the Jeep stand on the front seats lean over the roll bar and pull the top back... however I am 6'2 and can reach the top doing that. Good luck, you will find a way that works for you :D

oh and my velcro straps were in the glove box...
