Question about locking gas cap

Question about locking gas cap
Hi folks
Do the locking caps available from Chrysler have tethers? I saw a JK a few days ago with a tethered locking cap, but when I called my dealership they said it doesn't come with one.
If not Chrysler, do you know of any with tethers?

Re: Question about locking gas cap
they probably had an aftermarket. My jeep came with the chrome Jeep gas door. Id like to get the locking version of that. Some reason I have worries of some punks doing somthing to my gas.
Im sure canadian tire or an autoparts store would sell a tethered locking cap.

Re: Question about locking gas cap
I suggest not getting the locking door but rather just the locking cap behind. We do live in Canada and all it takes is some moisture and cold and the lock on that gas door will be froze up. I take my locking cap off in nasty weather or when hosing the dirt off so the lock doesn't freeze.
Back to the OP.. I haven't seen any tethered locking caps..

Re: Question about locking gas cap
I know national4wd carries the non locking door, they will sell you the locking one if you want it, but as JT mentioned above your looking for problems with our Canada winters and its locking device.
You always buy a lock gas cap and then buy the non lock door over top, keeps the snow and debris out yet you will have a much better chance of unlocking a cap being inside, rather than the door which is exposed to the elements.

Re: Question about locking gas cap
Order it, I bet you it comes tethered! I even got them to code my key to it!
As for having to worry about snow and what not getting in there, I never had any problems with that. I was worried at first too and was going to get a lid to put over it, but I never had any problems and Im up in Northern Ontario.
Anyway, hope this helps!

Very good point on the locking door. Never thought of that.

Re: Question about locking gas cap
Yup...I don't know how many times the locking door on my Civic has been frozen shut. IMO the Jeep looks better with a expose gas cap...locking or non...just looks better on the Jeep.

Re: Question about locking gas cap
My '08 JK has a tethered factory cap, but it doesn't lock. I chose to install a locking add-on top over the cap port, just to keep all the debris out of the indent. No trouble yet in almost two years. I'm still happy.
