Good Morning,
Thanks for posting that KAVIC. I'm glad the McRaes are mostly OK and the article serves to remind us all of the dangers of a hot CATALYTIC CONVERTOR (which, I'm assuming caused the fire and SHOULD have been mentioned in the article) BUT I don't think the Jeep was at fault.
Yup, the Jeep WAS designed and built to be driven off road but with some common sense. One doesn't race through a 4' deep water hazard, for example, and then complain the vehicle stalled out.
Who knows how much and where the combustable material was packed under the Wrangler.
After all, this isn't a Ford Pinto.

Hummm...interesting. I wish there were more details on this" engine revving but didn't go anywhere" ( I have to reread that ) anyhow....

My 2006 Rubicon did the same thing 2 weeks ago. I had just filled it up and was parked horizontally on slight uphill incline. I was out of it for less than 10 minutes.

I'm fine and have just replaced it with new 2010 Sahara that will look like Jeep Rescue when I'm done with it. Bummer was that my wallet, phone everything in it was lost.

Hiya,
Interesting. I could have minimised a potetial fault with a new model. Glad you're OK.

Glad the folks involved made it out alive! The loss of the two Jeeps does really suck!

I for one will check the 'charge' on my fire extinguisher...I'm gonna' buy a second one for safety I think
