2 door or 4 door

Hi all,
looking at buying a jk for my regular drive.
I have a couple of questions,

1. 2 or 4 doors? most of the time it's just me in it.

2. tow capacity? is it the same with both?

3. Do they both ride the same, or is the 2 door a bit choppy?

4. How do the axles stand up to larger wheels and a lift of say 3 inches?

many thanks
Goatee

Re: 2 door or 4 door

My opinion is bias to the 4 door because that's what I have and do not have the experience of driving the 2 door... that being said, the 4 door has loads more storage, Ether way this is not a good vehicle for towing and I think is only rated for about 3600 lbs... even my liberty with the tow package was rated for 5000. As for the axles, if you buy the rubicon then you'll end up with D44's front and rear with selectable lockers for both as well. There is considerable room for larger tires on these axles though not unlimited.
One major consideration for me was the fact that I want to run some big meat and the short base of the two door means that a stretch is maybe not absolutely necessary but definitely desirable.
Also just my opinion but I think the 4 door is way nicer looking that the 2 door, especially with the top and doors off.
I'm guessing that which ever you choose you'll be happy with.

thanks for the opinions.
sounds as if its best to get the rubicon for the axles then.
I was just thinking of towing my quad behind or maybe a small box trailer.

there is a lot of debate about that... you would probably find that it is cheaper to get a Sahara a build it up to a Rubicon.... I bought the Rubicon because I wanted something right out of the box ready for some hard core wheelin.... Looking back I might not have gone the same way but then again I wouldnt have had as much fun to this point either... Im not sure what all you get in the Sahara package but I'm told that you get more comforts for your money than the rubicon.. If you check around on some of the JK forums you will probably get a better perspective than I can offer you.

Re: 2 door or 4 door

It a depend the way Ur going to use your jeep
The 4 doors; if you like compagnie of more than one, easier to access the rear seat
The 2 doors; If you are like me, One is enought, I've remove the rear seat, It's a pain to access.
A How big the tires you are talking about?,,,,,35 with a 3 inchs lift perfect.
One major thing, if U have and automatic,,YOU WILL NEED TO REPROGRAM, cause the shifting in OD is a pain or a change the gearings.

For capacity go to Jeep Towing/Payload Comparison | Jeep.com and do some reading.

The 4 doors as a better ride but dont get me wrong here IT's not a CJ,, both are good daily driver.

The 44 are the best choice, again what's the SIZE, and U will need either gears or reprograming, and if U have concern with the warranty,,,no lift and no tires, some dealer are very touchy about this.

And again welcome in OUR jeep world, and DO NOT FORGET to WAVE BACK!

Re: 2 door or 4 door

I have a TJ, but I really like the 2 door. It's easy to park, it goes in tight spots while off-roading and I got rid of my freaking minivan for a reason! I didn't want a taller minivan with 4 wheel drive and knobby tires.

I have a family of 3, wife, kid and I. The kid is 5. It is a little complicated to get all our crap in it on big trips, but we find we just take less junk. We love the jeep and everyone has enough room and it is fun. I'm guessing fuel mileage may be slightly better with 1/2 the cab as well.

I look at 4 door jeeps and just think of big macho minivans. :smilie_auslachen:

That's my 2 cents, do with it what you will.
