Hi all,

This isn't my first Jeep. First one was a 1997 TJ - loved that thing but had to give it up for something with a bit more room.

Going back to school now and will be going back and forth between Kamloops and the Lower Mainland (Metro Vancouver) and bought a 2001 GC Limited with 4.7L. It has been abused and run down but I paid only $5000. Initially I figured that if it lasts me 2 years, I will be happy.

But now the Jeep bug has bit me, again. But first, I want to start off by doing some basic maintenance. I have access to a full-fledged mechanic's garage ( a buddy's) and tools. Although my buddy isn't that well-versed in Jeeps. He can do the basic maintenance stuff, but I want to learn and do it myself.

What are the things that I should first check and repair/replace before jumping into any other mods?

I've kinda drifted away from Jeeps, so not sure where to start....

Depends what options you have, the auto air controls had blend door issues, sometimes the A/C drain gets plugged. Check out www.wjjeeps.com for some good info on the WJ's including TSB's.

The blend door issue hasn't reared it's ugly head on this one, the tranny makes a whirring sound when shifting into reverse from either neutral or park, but shifts fine. The heated seats and the tweeters don't work, missing a key and key fob.

I am most concerned about the transfer case. Its a quadradrive and heard that they aren't that tough. Doesn't seem like the Jeep has been off road much and probably hasn't been used to tow either. No maintenance history available. So looking more for info on what should be done right away.
