Re: Trailer wiring

im an idiot!
i forgot that!

What part(s) will i need?

Re: Trailer wiring

You'll need a 4 pin trailer harness that you can get from somewhere like Canadian tire. I'd highly suggest taking the time to solder the connections and use heat shrink over top of them and then get some wire loom to cover all of that to make it look nice and neat. All of which you will be at Canadian or even Princess Auto.

Re: Trailer wiring

Thanks folks.
Going to attatch a 4flat onto the cables, and worry about whatever trailer end is on it when i see the trailer.

My confusion was because in Ireland EVERY trailer has a 7-male, and every car/SUV has a 7female

Re: Trailer wiring

The end that you want to attach to your Jeep is the one that has 1 single pin exposed. That would be the white wire which is the ground. On the trailer side you'll have 3 pins exposed and the ground will be protected.

Hope this helps.

Re: Trailer wiring

thanks, that way its a quick clip in for whatever trailer wiring is like

Re: Trailer wiring

Most trailers will be wired the same. The only exception would be if someone built a trailer and put the incorrect end on it or they changed the connectors on their trailer and tow vehicle and put the wrong end on.

Re: Trailer wiring

So the trailer end will be a 4-flat? or the 6-round?

thanks

Re: Trailer wiring

Most will be the 4 pin flat. The exception is when they have some type of brake system you could have a 5 pin flat or 7 pin round.

Took off the back-side panel (drivers side), and this is what i saw: as i said, when i put a tester light to the cables, using white as ground, LHS, RHS and lites all worked ok.
should I/do i need to/ are or my ok as is just using connecters onto a new 4-flat?

Re: Trailer wiring

Just solder a new connector onto the existing wires on the outside of your jeep. From your orginal pictures it appears that a connect had been there before and has been cut off.

Re: Trailer wiring

What happens the RED cable?, will i just snip it, or does it merge with another cable?

tool_guy 04-29-2011 08:58 PM

Re: Trailer wiring

Does the red wire have constant power on it?
