Towing

Hi all,
I am about to buy a 23ft cruiser.

Will my truck be able for it? its gonna weigh about 4100lbs?

We were hoping to keep in our drive and launch and retrieve every time.

Is that going to ruin the tranny or is she good enough for it?

Re: Towing

Just take it easy and keep the OD off and you'll be ok.

Re: Towing

Over Drive... basically making your transmission run faster than your engine to save gas... theres a switch to prevent it from kicking in and out of gear

basically allows you dro drive with 3 gears instead of 4...

the costs of keeping it in OD can be a tranny job to replace all the clutches at the very least.

Re: Towing

Turning off OD switches off the 'passing gear' on an automatic and is specifically for towing. It keeps your truck from trying to shift down to maintain speed while under heavy load, which does two things: reduces the loading on the tranny, and avoids sudden changes of speed when going up hills etc with a trailer. When you have it switched off, there will be an indicator lit up on the dash....don't worry.

Re: Towing

I learned something new! I always thought that the only thing the OD button did was lock out the 4th (and 5th if you have it) gears... Now I understand why my WJ won't downshift so easy when its off!

Thanks!!!
