Stupid Tailights
 

Hey Guys!

Have you ever had issues with getting out of the Jeep to find the Tailights on?
I've got a 94 GC 246,000 kms on it, still brand new.
It seems when it heats up from sitting in rush hour traffic the brake pedal will not fully
return after removing my foot, hence leaving the brake lights on and on some occasions
dragging the brakes slightly.
Had my Local Mechanic grease up the brake pedal but its still doing it.
Hotter it is outside the more it happens.
I checked the vacuum hose to the booster and it looks brand new.
Any ideas?

Check the booster and make sure it's pulling enough vacuum. Either get a vac guage or take it to the mechanic to check it out.

My mechanic said if I had a vacuum leak the engine would run really rough.
Other than this brake issue, engine runs smooth as silk.

There's an indicator that you have a problem right there... :)

Seriously I wouldn't trust the fact that the engine is running smoothly as gospel that the vacuum is spot on. You could have a hairline crack somewhere that opens up as the engine compartment heats up or some such thing. It doesn't take much of a drop to start causing a problem. If thats not the problem you'll have to start troubleshooting the electrical.

Thanks for the info I'll see if he can test the vaccum, could a slightly hot running engine cause something like this? I do know I have to replace the thermostat soon.

Heat in general can open up hairline cracks in equipment that you can't find when it's cold since they close back up. I'm not saying that this is your problem but I've seen it happen many times. That's why the mechanic will want to know what you were doing when the problem started.

It's possible for a booster to fail and cause this problem. I had one fail a few years ago, push the padal and it would stay down with the brakes on fairly hard, had to pull the pedal up to get the brakes off. To test for this problem, disconnect the vacuum line to the booster and see if the problem remains but be warned that without boost the brakes will be EXTREMELY HEAVY.
