Stereo Swap

I just bought a 95 Grand Cherokee Limited. I love it! It has all the bells and whistles, and everything works. The problem I have it with the stereo.
It is the Infinity Gold system. Works fantastic. Has the amp under the rear seat, and for a factory system it cranks out great.

But it is an am/fm/CASSETTE! I've dusted off all my old 80's cassettes, but after re-living my highschool days I think it is time for my CDs again.

Will a factory Chrysler am/fm/cd player just plug in and still use the amp? Or will I have to by-pass the amp? Anyone have an extra factory cd player lying around?

Re: Stereo Swap

I have a similar stereo but my ZJ is a 1996 and it as a CD and cassette option. You may want to look on ebay or in the wreckers for a stock 96-98 ZJ Infinity deck. I've seen them out there for $100 or less.

BTW... this is my first post.. I'm usually on Jeepkings or Jeepforum. it's nice seeing another all-CDN Jeep forum.

Re: Stereo Swap

I just did this on my '95 Gramd Cherokee Limited ( yeap, love all of the bells and whistles as well :) ) For me I installed an aftermarket JVC unit in place of the Infinity unit.

I picked up a harness "adaptor" from Canadian Tire to convert the aftermarket to the OE harness. The things I had that caught me was the new stereo, power amp wire needed to be hooked up to the blue "power antenna" in the original harness. It seems the power antenna and the amp use the same signal wire in the OE harness.

As a side note to installing an aftermarket stereo, there is little room in the dash for the wires. In my case a audio-video unit. I put in the stereo DIN adaptor but could not, at first, get the stereo and the wires in the dask. Needed to take out the DIN adaptor and lock stereo in place then pull all of the wires on top of the unit then put in the dash. Took a couple tries but it seated nicely :) In the end it all works and works cleanly with the amp and power antenna.
