Slow Crank 97 Grand Cherokee

Hey All
I just traded for a 1997 Grand Cherokee. It runs fine it just cranks slow for two revolutions before it starts. It does this no matter what. The guy I got it from said it has always done that but I am thinking maybe the battery he has in there (which looks new) doesn't have enough cca's. It's rated at 600 but having looked online the straight 6 seems to require up to 750. Does any of this sound right or should I be looking at something else as the issue. (or is this just normal for this year)

Thanks

Ck the battery with a volt meter to make sure its got the proper charge, chk the connections make sure there all clean, also the ground to the block, check your starter connections too. I had a similar problem thinking it was my battery when it was my starter that was slowly dieing. Sometimes when you go to start it do you get like a dead spot, like theres nothing then turning it on and off again it catches?? This could very well be starter.. but do as I mentioned first clean everything and make sure the connections on the battery are tight.

I will check the voltage and connections. There are no dead spots at all and the starter sounds strong. It just seems like it isn't getting enough juice.

Sounds like electrical to me. Check the grounds, main power cable to the starter, charging system and the battery itself.

600CCA is fine as long as it was always 600CCA but batteries degrade over time. The smallest battery I'd ever purchase is 850CCA and thats in my 4cyl ranger. My 4L XJ had a 1000CCA Eliminator battery in it.
