replacing rear wiper motor

The rear wiper on my 96 grand cherokee laredo is not working, i'm assuming that the motor burnt out, i want to remove it to check it and see if it in fact is burnt out but it seems like i have to remove the whole wiper blade assembly to be able to remove the motor. Has anyone ever done this job before? If so can you talk me through how to remove the wiper blade assembly? or if there is a way to remove the motor without having to remove the wiper blade assembly. I'm a new Jeep owner, so don't have much experience with these kind of vehicles. Thank you.

You have to remove the arm and then remove the inside plastic panel on the liftgate to get at the motor.

There may be a plastic cap over the nut holding the arm on outside. The first time I removed mine it was wedged in there pretty good so I had to use a small 2 arm gear puller to get it off.

yep, take off the little cap, then there should be a nut locking the wiper blade on... the wiper blade is held in on like a spline... you have to pull it straight off... if you twist it you'll end up ruining the grip then as soon as theres some drag (like snow) it might strip... or not retract back to the parked position.
