Quick exhaust help, And steering wheel
 

Hey all, I used to post here a lot earlier on looking for a jeep .. well I finally bought one and I must say, it's a sick ride. It looks so innocent but underneath that sheet metal is a 4.7L engine that blasts lowly integra's out of the water (was dicking around with my friend on an empty stretch of road ... he's got a 5 speed 97 integra).

Anyways, I'm making a sound system for my truck right now, but I got some questions regarding the exhaust.

I haven't decided on a muffler yet, I want a flowmaster 50 series SUV but people are telling me to get magnaflow.

Which sounds better? I don't want that raspy crap, just a deep aggressive tone when I stomp the gas (kind of like the dodge ram, or think of a V8 mustang in the higher revs).

My main question is, what is the inlet/outlet size I need for a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L WJ?

And should the exhaust be straight through, or offset?

I don't wanna look like a 'tard at the parts counter, so help me out! It's snowy as hell right now still, or I'd climb under and have a looksy lol.







Also, My steering has a weird problem ...

-It's a low groaning kind of noise when I turn the wheel
-Only happens when I turn left
-Only happens sometimes
-I greased it all up with some WD40 and it stopped, and i was driving around in the wet/snow a lot and I guess wd40 got washed off now its back


It can't be power steering pump because it only makes the noise going one way. Fluid levels are good. I have no clue what it could be, I don't feel a real change in resistance when I turn to the left and the noise occurs, but the noise is definitely audible.


So honestly, wtf could it be? Other than that it's a sick truck, pulls really hard and everything works as it should. Gas mileage is a bit ..... abysmal .. but i really don't care.

Hey Pauler,

For the exhaust e-mail Nick at kolak@aol.com, he'll tell you exactly what you need for the 4.7.
For the power steering, check that the bolts that hold it to the frame are tight. Check it it's leaking anywhere. If the fluid level is correct and the sound went away after you sprayed WD-40 on it, it could be a couple of different things.
Serpentine belt is worn out.
Idler pulley isn't putting enough tension on the belt.
Power steering pulley bearing is starting to go or has some crud caught in it..

What's the worst thing you think it could be cost wise? It only happens when turning left, and only sometimes. Somedays I'll take a short drive it won't happen, but once it happens once it keeps happening. Thoughts?

First you've got to narrow down what the problem is.
If the belt is old it may have stretched a bit so thats about 40-50 bucks, checking if steering box bolts are tight, free unless you don't own a socket set. :)
What a pulley or idler would cost, not to sure. Call a parts place for a price.
Start at the simplest thing and work your way up.

Congrats on the new ride......I've been to FL AGAIN so I've been out of touch for a bit but when I read your post I LMAO !!!!! I don't mean to be "An I told you so" but there IS no substitute for cubic inches!
I "averaged" 18 MPG (US) @ 85 MPH and about 20 MPG @ 60 MPH-(instant read from the computor) and by the way officer, when was the last time you had your radar gun calibrated...hahahaha.
