Quadra drive won't work!
Hello I'm new to the site. And I have a huge problem
I bought my 01 jeep gc limited about 2 months ago And the Quadra drive was working perfect then I took It to canadian tire for inspection and they said I needed A cv boot so they changed out the whole axle the front Passenger side. And ever since then the Quadra drive Won't work I get stuck everywhere and they won't fix The problem they keep saying it's fine but clearly only Rear wheels spin. Is there any idea what it can be or How to fix it? |
Re: Quadra drive won't work!
Might be the sensor on the passenger side shaft. Is the abs light on?
|
Re: Quadra drive won't work!
No the abs light is off. And when I put it in 4 lo the back
Wheels just spin more |
Re: Quadra drive won't work!
From what I can gather on the information I have available (which is not much) When the system is in low range the transfer case is supposed to lock the front and rear output together. To confirm whether the t/case is actually locking or not you would have to jack up both ends of the vehicle, make sure it's securely supported and then put it in low range and see if both front and rear driveshafts spin when you have it in drive. If not it would point to an issue with the t/case which could be a broken wire, fuse or something more serious. If both driveshafts turn but only the wheels at one end it would point to either a differential or axelshaft issue.

Re: Quadra drive won't work!
When I jacked it up only the rear wheels spun and
The front passenger but it was really slow compared To the rear. I stopped the front with my hand so It wasn't spinning strong at all. This all happened after They replaces the passenger front cv axle Thank you for your replies |
Re: Quadra drive won't work!
Hi Kal07, I'm assuming you have the 247 T/C?
When the wheels are all off the ground in 4hi the back wheels should spin and if you stop one of them one of the front wheels will start to spin. When in 4lo all 4 wheels should be spinning. Sometimes (not always) this can be cured by doing a fluid change on the T/C. I know it souds strange but it does sometimes work. If you do have the 247 make sure you use the correct fluid and nothing else, what may have happened is the previous owner may have topped it up with ATF and the clutch pack inside is sticking/ sliding. Good Luck |
Re: Quadra drive won't work!
But were both driveshafts (front and rear) spinning when it was in low range?. I'm trying to establish if the problem is in the t/case or the front diff.

Re: Quadra drive won't work!
Just the rear was spinning with the front passenger
But I stopped the front with my hand and it stopped after I let go It was working perfect until the changed the cv axle right after they Did that it stopped working |
Re: Quadra drive won't work!
The last owner was my uncle and he never changed it
And if he did the dealer does all the work Like I was saying it worked 100% for me I drove it from bc to Alberta 8 hours in the snow And it was beautiful. When I went to do a put of province Inspection they said the cv boot was ripped so they changed The whole axle and right when I was driving it home It was fishtailing every where then I figured the all wheel drive isn't working So I took it back and they lifted it up put it in drive and Only the rear and front passener tires spun but I stopped the front with my hand It was spinning so slow. And then they gave me this bs about how There's no way all 4 will spin at one time an if it did it would Be hard to turn. I'm like ok but how does it work in a awd then? And They said oh well jeep is different, so I just left and now I'm stuck Thanks for the reply |
Re: Quadra drive won't work!
OK, lets try something else. Jack up the front end. rotate the right side tyre and either the other side wheel or the driveshaft should turn, what happens? Then rotate the left side tyre and either the driveshaft or the other side tyre should turn, what happens? Follow these directions exactly and post what happens, should only take five minutes or less to perform this simple test.
