Parking Brake does not completely release
 

hi, there.

I have a problem with my 1996 Grand Cherokee.

After Parking at some store with applied parking brake, I noticed a noise coming from the right rear wheel on the way home.

At home I touched the left and right brake disc and noticed, that the right one was way hotter than the left one. So I guess something is rubbing.

Since it was pretty cold outside ( -15° C) I think it might be frozen or something.

Does someone know how to get rid of this problem or has experienced anything similar?

what can I do about that? just pull and release the handle a couple times?
Since the left wheel is fine, it means that there must be two cables, one for each wheel. Is that true?

Yep If you trace it out you should see either under the jeep, or under the rear seats where the cables meet, hit this up with some penetrating oil and give it a few tugs and see if it'll let go...

if all appears to be fine, you might have a spring stuck on the inside of the brake rotor, spray some brake parts cleaner and give it a few tugs

hello again. I tried the spraying thing. I went under the truck and sprayed the spots where the wire goes in and coems out of the cable. I also let the engine run for about half in hour in order to heat the whole thing up and pulled and released the parking brake a bunch of times. But on a test drive I still heard this rubbing noise.
Afterwards, I touched the braking discs again and the right one was hotter again, but it wasn't as hot as expected; I was able to leave my finger on there without it getting too hot. My test drive was about 3 kilometers and I did a lot of breaking, with the normal break as well as with the parking breake.
So I thought maybe its something else, I just didn't notice before. I have the truck now for two weeks and was usually driving with the heater on and you can't hear the noise when the heater is on.

Has somebody an idea what else I could try and if I can drive the car to work (ca. 5km)?

Since what ur doing with the penetrating oil is working I'd be inclined to do it again, making sure I spray the linkage under the jeep where it separates into 2 pieces, also (from the inside) where the hand brake handle goes thur the floor connection there (unless its the foot type thingie) then spray the linkage there too.Your worried about the danger of driving it with one brake slightly on, not good for any long trips. It moves, when your stopped on a little incline does the jeep stay there or roll...if it rolls then the brake isn't on very much. If all else fails in removing the brake completely then its pull wheel off time and remove the brake by hand..

5km isn't that bad of a haul, id avoid hitting the highway though...

i would take the tire off and give it a good visual check, if you can, remove the caliper and slide the rotor off you can see what kind of condition it all is, in in the drum of the rotor where the ebrake is located, id look for gouging and make sure theres plenty of material on the rotor and pads...

if that all checks out, id check the diff for metals... and id take a look at the bearings and see if their in good shape...

Since I have to take the truck to the shop on friday anyways for some warranty issues, I will just ask the guy to take the wheel of and check.
