Need help deciding!!!

Hi everyone...

I am trying to decide whether or not to get an '03 GC with 127k's on it...the asking price is $10,900...

Is it worth the $$$ ? It's loaded...has power everything, a sunroof, alloys, heated leather and all...

What is everyone's experience with the '03 GC? Is 127k's a lot? average? how many more k's will it last?

I don't want to hardcore 4 X 4 with it, (although it WILL get the occasional workout, I'm sure) but it will get a lot of winter driving...worst winter for snow I've EVER seen...

I'll be trading in my '06 PT Cruiser (which I love) for it, so it has to be just as "love-able" as my PT....

So, go ahead...convince me that I should!!!

GC Hopeful...(soon to be GC Satisfied, if you guys convince me...):confused::confused:

Hello Hopeful,
I just bought a '00 GC with 80K on her for about $7600. IF your Jeep is a local trade, 127K would suggest highway miles which is good for ANY engine. While I have very little knowledge of the 4.7, it's reputation is fine. I just got back from a 5000 km run to FL and back and I averaged about 23 mpg (I think-19mpg US). The 4.7 just purrs at 160kph (OK, I didn't just say that Mr. State Trooper...hahahaha).
I've SEEN PT cruisers but as to the "lovability" as compared to a GC I can't comment BUT I am developing a love afair with MY GC. Go with your gut and if you're worried about snow, go with the GC.
Peter.

I've owned many different cars/ trucks over the years but when I got my GC it was like a teenager with thier first car all over again. I would'nt trade it for anything. I've had it since it was new and have never regreted it.

GC's have been reliable and dependable in my experience... Also you should not shy away from it because it has 127k kms... thats not that much at all...

Well, it sounds like I should become that much more serious about this...the dealer is supposed to bring it up for me today to try...it's supposed to snow to beat the band again today, so it's a good day to test a 4 X 4...I'll let you guys know if I change my status to "GC Satisfied" or not...

Thanks for your comments everyone!!!

I have a 95 GC.. a 91 YJ (summer use), and have been using my girlfriends 04 GC. 04 is a great vehicle, and love it. It doesn't have the same feel as my 95, but the 95 has been thru hell. 400,000 on it, and its been upside down, in countless rivers and steams, and I still love her. The 04 can't do those because my GF would kill me. But I am sure it could follow in ol' betsy's ' footsteps if it had to.

Re: Need help deciding!!!

Well, with the holidays and all, my dealers hasn't brought the truck up for me to try yet...I'm sure he will once this craziness is over...

So can anyone suggest what kind of things I should be paying extra attention to when I test this Jeep out? What kind of things could be worn out/defective/ready to break that I could get repaired before I go with it? Is there a brand of tires I should be avoiding or favouring?

This Jeep will be replacing my daily ride, so it's gotta be a good one...

Thanks in advance guys/gals...

Well, it seems that it was not meant to be...the dealer went and sold it to someone else...

I guess it really was too good to be true...

So, on goes the search for the perfect Jeep...

Re: Need help deciding!!!

Hey guys,

Well, I still haven't found my perfect ride...but I HAVE been looking around quite a bit, and doing my homework...found out there are a lot of different configurations of GC's out there...that makes it hard to choose the best one...

Here are a couple of my concerns...

Some models have 6 cyl engines...now, as far as fuel economy, does it make a big difference? Is the vehicle underpowered with a 6 banger? I know that the CJ / XJ / YJ's that have 4 bangers are underpowered for any kind of serious 4 X 4'ing...is this the case with a GC with a 6?

Have also seen a bunch of different drivetrains...ie: Selec-trac, Quadra-trac and Quadra-drive...I've done the homework and I understand the difference between them...my question is, seeing that you can select 2WD with the Selec-trac, is there a big amount of fuel economy there too? Or again, does it make the vehicle underpowered for 4 wheeling?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide...I "WILL" find my perfect ride yet!!!

GC Hopeful...stuck in Northern Ontario!!!

I have the AWD 99 GC Limited (4.7L). Frickin' LOVE it!! Wicked ride, heated leather seats, all the bells and whistles. Have owned it for 3 years, it now has 185000kms on it. It is due for a tune-up, but other than that just 2 issues with it. The Oil Pressure sending unit crapped out, and well as the Crank Positioning Sensor. $160 later... all good. I like it so much that the wife drives it!! LOL!! I wouldn't hesitate to buy another for a second.
I have known a few guys that have wheeled with the 4.0L, and did great. I have known guys that wheeled with the V8, and LOVED the extra HP/torque. Personal preference, methinks.
Just my $0.02.
