knocking noise from driving wheel
HI all,
Just bought my 1st Jeep yesterday. It's a Grand Cherokee Ltd with the 5.7 2006. I did an inspection with CAA before buying and everything was in perfect condition. The Jeep is really clean but when i got home and driving around i heard that knocking noise from the steering wheel when either turning left or right and the steering wheel seems a little loose. At the inspection, they told me to get it aligned because it was showing some minor uneven wear on the tire .... but nothing really noticeable ... Any clues on what would be the cause of this sound? Thx ! |
Re: knocking noise from driving wheel
hmm its hard to say, the knocking noise to me sounds like it could have been a tie rod, pitman arm or drag link worn out... but that would have to be replaced before they would pass your inspection, atleast i wouldn't pass ya... and definetly replaced before they would do an alignment...
If all of that checked out and was fine, it could be the steering link between the steering wheel and the steering box itself... so id check that out... |

Re: knocking noise from driving wheel
Just got the Jeep back tonight.
It was the steering column coupling that got loose. Retightened by mecanic for $ 1/2hr charge + alignment = $124 ... not too bad :OP i tought it was going to cost me $500+ No knocking noise anymore and a Jeep going straight! :O)) Thanks. |
Re: knocking noise from driving wheel
yeah thats not too bad, half hour of labor is spot on, since you have to take the air intake box out to get to it... but glad it was an easy fix!
