interior/dome lights won't turn off

so today my interior/dome lights decided that they won't turn off, and i can't figure out why, it's both the dome light in the front passanger area and the one in the cargo area. the only thing that happened out of the ordinary is that the door was closed while the seatbelt was left outside and got stuck in the way of the door, not too sure if this could of caused a problem, seatbelt was removed from the path of the door and now the lights won't turn off, i ended up having to remove both bulbs because i don't want it to drain my battery, if anyone could help with this issue or has any suggestions i would really appreciate it because it's starting to drive me a little crazy. also that same door where the seatbelt got stuck is nearly impossible to get it open from the outside, i have no problem opening it from the inside, but it's almost impossible to get it opened from the outside, this could be what's causing the issue with the lights, not sure. the vehicle i'm talking about is a 1996 jeep grand cherokee, thanks to anyone who can help.

k well if you slammed your seatbelt in the door, check the plunger thing to see if you messed it up. also try turning off the rear cargo lamp, if it is on the lights will not turn off. for my 98 gc, the hatch was a replacement from pick n pull, i unplugged wires in the hatch until i found the one that was the culprit.

Not sure what a plunger thing is - but - the button that turns the light on when u open the door chk to make sure it is working smoothly, I have put a little wd40 on it once in awhile as on older vehicles they will stick sometimes. Your door sticks only on the outside then its the release (door handle) thats sticking, again might just need some wd40 spray into the mechanism, also make sure the door is alined with the belt been in between it might have knock the alinement out. All guessing here on things that have happened b/4, otherwise the door panel may have to come off and chk inside the mechanism (does the lock work smoothly) Let us know the outcome.
