Fighting rust on a 2000 wj

So, my 2000 WJ 4.7 passed emissions testing for the next two years, and now I'm looking at the rust...

My rockers are pretty beat to the point where I can shove a screwdriver through them in a couple of spots. So I'm looking at cutting out the rot, replacing the sheet metal and then getting some sliders. While I'm at it, the lips of the wheel wells are starting to flake/peel as well. Had anyone cut their fenders? Alternatively, what would you suggest? I don't really care about the appearance, and would be fine with primer/bedliner exterior...just looking for suggestions.

When I bot my 89 xj the rocker panels were of painted starfome and the floor was held by the carpet. This is what was done with mine we removed the starfom and my friend built me some steel rock rails from boxed steel, it was strong enuff to stand on or lift the truck, the fenders were cut and the truck lifted by 3" and 33's were put on.All homemade, but its nice to have friends that know what there doing.Much cheaper, just shop around at steel companies for you steel. If yu were near Mtl I'd tell u go to Century Steel (now called La Prairie Steel) near goodfellow lumber

thanks for the advice. for the rockers, I'm thinking about making some sliders from heavy box section welded in place of the rockers, and supported to the uniframe for stiffness. for the wheel wells, I'm debating cutting them for higher clearance and to remove any rust, or just grinding off the rust and coating it all in primer and bedliner.

I've patched the rockers with tin, tar and self tapping screws to keep them held together over the winter...and then had the whole Jeep rust proofed by Krown.

That should keep it all in one piece for the time being, at least until I can get on with getting some sliders.
