dropping into 3rd(4spd. auto

hi everyone, first time user.

I recently bought a 1993 gc with a 4.0l. and 4spd. automatic trans., when travelling at highway speeds in 4th gear. if i barely touch the gas to accelerate the tranny drops into 3rd?, happens every time. any info would be great

thanks in advance

I'll assume that the fluid level is correct, have you checked to make sure the shifter cable isn't loose? It may not be fully engaging the drive gear. When was the last time the fluid and filter were changed?
For shift times are you about asking while it's rolling or when you first put it in gear?

id check that transmission kickdown adjustment cable, where your cruise control, tranny and throttle cables all meet on the intake manifold, theres one marked with a T... that is your kick down adjustment... and it should move with the throttle until it is straight down then pull out... basically that white clip (which is the lock) needs to get lifted, and then reset... if the outer jacket accidently got pushed in towards the throttlebody this would be causing the kick down issue

i thought i had a good site for adjusting this thing, but i dont:alcoholic:
i just kept playing with mine and figured it out
