Diagnostic Trouble Code 95 ZJ
 

Hey Guys,

My engine light is not on, however when I went to start my ZJ this morning it made a different noise and seemed to struggle for a second before it started. When I checked the code, it gave me this:

Code 12: Problem with the battery connection. Direct battery input to PCM disconnected within the last 50 ignition key cycles.

Code 17: Engine is cold too long. Engine coolant temperature remains below normal operating temperatures during operation. (Check thermostat)

Now I am far from being a mechanic, can anyone explain to me what's going on, and if its a big deal? I am leaving on a 10 000 KM road trip next week, is it going to be OK?

It could also be the coolant sensor and not the thermostat does it seem like the Jeep is warming up? Is the gauge reading normal? Check the connection at the temp sensor. Is this a new problem or has it acted up before. As for battery check all the connections for corrosion. 10 000km is a long drive make sure you take some tools so you can do repairs as needed. One nice thing about having a Jeep is that help is always just a Jeep away. Someone with a Jeep will always stop and lend a hand in the event of a break down.

Like Mattz said, check the sensor first could be something as simple as a loose or dirty wire. Sometimes you'll get crud in the connectors and that's all it takes. If you've never done the thermostat before then it never hurts especially when your about to do a long distance trip like you said.
Definately make sure everything is topped up and tuned up before hand. Don't forget the diffs and the T/C if they haven't been done in awhile either.
