Battery or Alternator or worse???

I had a check Gages light earlier on today(in the rain),
i was stopped at traffic lights and i like a fool decided to run the key turning diagnostic test - EVERYTHING died......

Called my buddy and we boost started it - before he arrived, i used a light current tester - and it lit up

When we connected the cables, volts never reached 14 but started first time.

Never sounded good and lights never came on.

Here is footage of what was like......

Re: Battery or Alternator or worse???

Morning Cor,
I seem to recall you had electrical troubles earlier. Let's start cheap and simple...
Did you ever replace the battery? If so, have you cleaned the cable connections yet? (both ends of each,+/-)
Get either a post cleaner http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en

or some sandpaper (100 grit or so) and make sure the posts and clamps are VERY clean.
If accessible, disconnect and clean both the ground (-) and the pos (+) where it terminates (not sure where, could be on the starter motor.)
Rather than a light tester, you might invest in a cheap (should be less than $10) Volt Ohm Meter (VOM).
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
for example.
If you have replaced the batt' and cleaned connections, your problem is beyond my "old school" knowledge....OK, anybody else?
Peter

Re: Battery or Alternator or worse???

can anybody point me in the right direction for idiot proof guide for changing the alternator?
In particular, the belt (moving/making it loose), to get at the lower bolts
already doused the bolts in WD-40

Re: Battery or Alternator or worse???

So after my few days of stress about my truck, here is the latest.....

Changed the alternator, charged the battery, removed the heater control unit and ciggarete lighter units (i changed the heater control last week), incase they caused the battery drain....

Hooked her up to a Durango, and started first time.

Then comes on CHECK ENGINE, i ran the key turning diagnostic and 0700 showed as the fault.

When i put from park to drive, i feel a chuk - and it takes 2000rpm before i move, and the fuel consumption is sky high (even for GC!)

any suggestions?
thanks.....
