All-Time 4WD problem - stuck in 4WD
 

Hi All,
Just bought my first Jeep, a 93 Grand Cherokee with 5.2L V8 and All-Time 4WD. At first, only once in a while my driver infor center would beep and say 'Service 4WD switch'. Now it's happening all the time and today I noticed it's stuck in 4WD. The front axle must be stuck engaged cause it's binding when you turn sharp. Can't be good for the front end on dry pavement. Does anyone know how to service the switch and where it is? I thought it would be on the axle but I don't see anything. Help please.

I'm putting the 2.25" BB on in about a week and I need new shock since my stock ones are almost dead. I understand that I will get a stiff ride but don't want to spend tons on shocks. What are the feelings on the Skyjacker 7000 and 8000 series? Also the Procomp 3000's?

These GCherokee's have no switches on the front axles. The unit you have is more then likely the electricly shifted unit. There is a stepper motor on the transfer case, that selects between 2WD/4WD and low for you. You push the dash button, and so on... Anyway, there's usually a position indicator switch in the transfer case, that goes bad. It is 90% of the time the problem. The switch on the dash, is just a switch, it has no CPU's in it (for lack of a better term, little tipsy form this cheap beer).

The stepper motor has this switch/indicator in it. I would suspect that first.
