Default '99 WJ pass. front signal issues...

hey there!

i have an intermittent failure of the front turn signal on the passenger side of my 99 grand cherokee limited. it will work just fine for months, then not work for a day or 3, then start working again. since i have changed all the bulbs on that light assembly, and the wires look fine (no bad kinks or bare spots), and everything else works on the signal arm, i'm thinking its probably the combination flasher. could the combo flasher fail intermittently in such a manner, or should i be looking elsewhere, like maybe faulty grounds, etc...?

all input appreciated...

The next time it fails, turn on your four way flasher and see if it works with that. If not it points to the bulb holder or associated wiring, if it does works it suggests the switch might be the problem.

once it fails, the four ways don't make a difference. everything lights up except that one signal.

If the marker light is the same bulb (dual filament) see if it fails at the same time as the flasher. If it does it's a bad ground.

the filaments are fine, the bulbs don't seem to be the issue. i think you're right though, sounds a lot like a ground issue...

thanks for the advice!

now all i have to do is find out where the damn grounds are located... lol
i have a service manual (not haynes) but i haven't found the needed info in it yet.

the search continues... ;D

Just ground it anywhere to prove the point.

well, i solved my signal problem... on my way home from work the other day, the signals/hazards stopped working entirely, so i hit up the auto supply around the corner and ordered a replacement combination flasher. i showed up 5 minutes before they closed, and they still managed to have it there by 10:AM the next morning.

list price was $120+tx, my price was $84.48 tax incl.

the only thing i like better than solving the problem at hand is saving 30% in the process! lol
