Re: 94 Jeep Grande Cherokee
Try taking some WD-40 (or similar) and spray in the locks/latch/where ever else. Everything might be freezing up and getting stuck. Some WD-40 should help lubricate and keeps things working. It worked on my Accord.

Re: 94 Jeep Grande Cherokee
Hello LC99,
By all means take D-T's suggestion and flood the mechanism with WD. Spray into the latch up, down and all around. On my '94 Cherokee, there is a plastic cap hiding the screw that holds on the back end of the outside door handle. If you've go the same, take off this cap and flood the door handle and the inside top of the latch mechanism (you may have to make a plastic tube extension for the WD tube to reach the direct top of the latch). While performing both of the previously mentioned proceedures, you should be operating both the door handle outside and the latch (with the door open, take a screw driver and close the latch (open with the outside handle) then open, spray, close etc.). Do this numerous times. It sounds like whatever lubication is in there has gummed up and thickens during cold weather and has to be cleaned out-this is the role of the WD. Once you think you've "flushed" sufficiently I would suggest re-lubrication (WD is not really a lubricant as such-WD stand for water displacement although it DOES provide some short term lubrication and IS a good cleaning solvent). I have had great success with "Rust Check" (I use the red not the green) available at Canadian Tire (or Crappy tire for those so inclined). You'll find it in the undercoating section. I use it for all lubrication and a 375ml spray can (about $6.75) lasts a long time. Hope this helps. Peter. |
Re: 94 Jeep Grande Cherokee
I have a '94 JGC and had problems with door latch. It has been quite awhile but I think I removed inside door panels and loosened the lock mechanism on the door jam and sprayed it with a good 6% silicone spary lubricant. End of problemd and has been good for a couple of years now. Still enjoying the '94 and have just repaired rear wiper problem and replaced power antenna
