2008 GJ Overland 3.0L diesel block heater
 

I recently discovered that my block heater on my 2008 GJ diesel doesn't work. My dealer says that it could be the cord ( possible ) and that the waiting time for a cord is long, if it is the heater element it is not serviceable. Does anyone know if the heater element is or is not replaceable. Thanks in advance

they are serviceable, but its a pain, its installed down low on the block itself, just like a freeze plug, which means draining coolant, popping it out (some have a bolt holding them in place) and installing a new one... very difficult

your best bet is to follow the cord, make sure its not cut, and actually plugged in (i had my 98 unplug itself several times... new cords can usually be found at canadian tire and other places... Zero Start stuff)

You can often find a Zero Start inline cooler which gets added to your heatercore lines, i have one on both of my TDI Jetta's and its instant cabin heat and barely glows... was $140 if i recall correctly, i've thought about getting another one and installing it in my WJ lol

I think Canadian Tire and Partsource have magnetic heaters on sale quite regularly if you don't feel like fixing the block heater. Slap them underneath and plug 'em in.

BTW, flushing the coolant should be done regularly on most vehicles, I don't see how that's really an issue :dunno:

I have a couple of mag heaters, my concern was my local dealer told me that the block heater was not servicable ( what ever that means ) and that if it was burnt out that I would have to find a solution on my own. since then I have found that while the block heater is in a bad place it is far from " not servicable " in fact I have a part # for it just don't know if the part is available. Jeep goes on the hoist on Monday and I will post the results later Monday

i thought they outlawed the magnetic ones years ago...
