Hi guys, if anybody has experienced this before or has an idea: headlights stay on when engine is shut down (have unplugged both connectors or else they will drain the battery). I have a suspicion they are the daytime driving lights but can't guarantee, could very well be the low beam. With the engine running and the dashboard rotary switch on low beam, when switching between low and high beam I hear the click, the combination switch on the steering column does not apear to be broken, and there is change in the lights, probably high beam; the high beam witness light on the dashborad is lit all the time (including when the engine is shut down). I thought it's the combination switch on the steering column, got a used one from the scrapyard, no changes. Help!

Try replacing the headlight relay with the one from your horn (they are the same size) and see if it still does it.

Anybody knows where is the Daytime driving lights module and how to disable it? and a cheaper option for buying this module than the $150 plus tax from the dealer?

Did you check the relay? The DLR can't be disabled without access to a DRBIII system.

Good Morning,
Gstroe. You MAY be in legal trouble ??? if you disable your DRL similar to, say, having a burnt out taillight. Not sure but what's the problem with running DRL?

another thing you might check. These things have a timer that keeps the headlights on if you turn off the motor before the lights. It's probably a module somewhere but don't ask me where. p.s. the xj's had the same and I never found the module on them either.

I found the problem, it is the daytime driving lights module that is defective. On 1996 Grand Cherokee models it is just under the fuse box in the engine compartment and simply un-plugging the connector everything is now normal. I found another post on the internet describing exactly the same problem and the solution, un-plug the DRL module. Only drawback is that you will no longer see the high beam witness light in the dash lit when you have the high beam activated (but the high and low beam will work just fine). I can live with that. Of course there are no day lights either but there are plenty of cars on the road without so I'm OK with that. Went to the local scrapyard to see if I can get one, could not find any. Well, eventually I will find one.
