Re: cj7 Carter Carb

Your problem can stem from lots of other things. Timing, vacuum leaks causing carb to dump fuel, excessive blowby (burning oil), the list goes on. Plugged return line from fuel pump causing excessive presures, all kinds of yummy probs. Fiddling with the idle screws (if you have gone through a few carbs), is probably not going to fix the problem. I would start looking elsewhere bro, then work your way back to carb.

first off all remove the idle control valve and clean it,remove the Throttle Position Sensor, Manifold Absolute Presure sensor and the IACV first so that they would not get damaged this would help you to get rid of rough idling problem.....................

Re: cj7 Carter Carb

you really need to find some one that knows about carbs. if your running that rich id say your flooding, or have a really weak spark. maybe way to rich on the jets, but that would be rare.

I would first check the floats are actually floating. If you have a pcv valve, is it working and are you sure the hoses that connect it are not plugged?

Re: cj7 Carter Carb

clear the plugged pcv line first. install a good fuel filter. get the carb checked over, you have dirt under the needle seat/ assembly, causing it to trickle past making it run super rich, jet the carb down, if you can still find jets . goggle it. no larger then # 68to 70 . make sure the choke plate is open wide when hot . bubb

Re: cj7 Carter Carb

those 258 intakes had a tendency to loosen up ......

good time to change the intake/exhaust gasket .....if leaking ! check the bolts , they might be loose

you should have arund 20 pounds of vacuum when idling .....

if all ok , those carbs where **** ! try to get one from an old 318 dodge no stupid add ons

or do like i did : change to an offenhauser 4 barrel intake +quadrajet : never any problem after
