Steering wheel is too low ???

Isn't the steering column fastened to the body and dash ? If so it should go up the same amount the body was lifted.

The steering wheel is to low .Its mounted to the body .So I don't know if I can add a piece in the steering shaft and change the bolt plate on the column??? i just took apart a 81 cj5 and looked at the steering column and looked at it .I would have to weld nuts on the column to move up the column 4inches.

Well on Vancouver Island looking for a used steering Column for my cj5 is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.I went to the local auto parts store and order a Flaming River tilt steering column.Just under $800 buck was a bit more than I wanted to spend ,but what the HELL.The column will bolt right in and the wire will hook up . So, no screwing around to adapting thing.i've looked for awhile on the web and the only answer I received was buy a used jeep column and rebuild it.

Hi,

I think your problem can be sorted out after greasing under the bearings.

Thanks,

install new flaming river heavy duty replacement steering shaft, which has been designed completely to update the oem steering system. The slip shaft kit includes a universal joint for the column, a slip-universal joint for the steering box or rack and pinion, a 36" DD shaft (which can be cut to size) and a protective bellow, this would help to drive out your problem........................:):):):):):)

The only reason I bought the Flaming River tilt steering column, cause I was lead to believe that it would solve all my problems.Well I paid $800.00 and I'm no better off .I had no problems with my steering column the way it worked, but I needed tilt to have room .The Flaming River new column ONLY clicks up one position and it clicks down two positions were a 10 year old kid could drive it. I have still a problem and the only way is to cut into the fenderwell two inches and move the seat back. The overall view FLAMING RIVER A WASTE OF MONEY FOR ME. I just sold a spare CJ5 to two fellows and they both have the same problem, one guy bought a Jeep tilt column and the other fellow is going to cut the fenderwell.I guess we should of bought CJ 7's I guess.
