Canada Stalling

Hey guys, I have an issue with my 89 Cherokee Ltd. It likes to stall when I push the accelerator. Then it takes forever to get it started again. There is the smell of gas and you have to hold the accelerator to the floor and it will finally start and run after three times usually. When it does start it runs rough and then settles down. There seems to be a dead spot when you push the accelerator just a bit but not if you gun it. Any Ideas? I have just replaced the starter, plugs, rotor, and wires.

Is it carburated or injected? If it has a carb it sounds like the float is sticking.

id check the distributor, its sounding awfully familiar to my 8e9 cherokee

it would keep dying unless i keep my foot in it... would idle smooth but as soon as the rpm's would go up it would freak out, and as soon as you let off it would die, it ended up being a broken distributor post going down to the cam... (i ended up selling the jeep over this (HUGE regret))

i'd check that, and your idle air control valve on the throttle body, it bypasses the throttle body block off plate, and keeps it running smooth...

Mine runs smooth, it just takes very slight pressure on the accelerator to make it stop running. I tested the IAC and believe that it is working as it should. What gets me is the fact that it is so hard to start when it has been running and warmed up. Starts no problem when it is cold?

Real common for TPS issues on that old sensor. Also try blocking off the vacuum hose to the EGR valve temporarily. These had a bad habit of popping the EGR open just off idle.
