Hi im a University student in Calgary and im looking into buying a 1998-2001 Cherokee (XJ)
Id just like to do a little research before i go and spend a bunch of money on one.
Do you guys have any advice you can offer?
Im especially worried about the high mileage engines Im finding on the used car ads. Should I be worried about +200,000kms?
Also, How bad is the fuel economy in the 4.0L six-cylinders?
Thanks,

Get someone that has some Mech skills to go over the XJ, 200.000 is not that bad for the 4 Ltr motor. Please Please Please make sure you check the T case on the test drive put in Neutral and select 4 Hi and drive it around and do the same in all the ranges. When you drive it listen for clunking, loud ticking could be a sign that the U joint,Axles are on there way out or problems with the T case also get the engine up to temp and turn the heater on and all the lights Hi beams and see if there is any power draw on the battery/alternater... You might want to take someone that has 4X4 related experiance with Jeeps they are a breed apart Good Luck hope you find a Jeep
