On February 12, Chrysler Group announced its pricing strategy for its first diesel-powered, full-size SUV ever to be offered in the Canada. The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Mercedes-Benz 3.0-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine will start at a suggested retail price of $48,750. The 3.0-litre V-6 engine will be available in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, Limited and Overland 4x4 models.

"The evolution of clean diesel technology represents a tremendous value and environmental opportunity for Canadian drivers by improving fuel economy and achieving low emissions levels," said Reid Bigland, President and Chief Executive Officer of DaimlerChrysler Canada. "With DaimlerChrysler's global leadership in clean diesel technology combined with our Dodge and Jeep products, we believe we can help expand the consumer popularity of diesel technology throughout Canada."

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 Litre Diesel tops its competition within the segment with best-in-class torque and fuel economy. It provides an average fuel economy improvement of 30 per cent and a gain of nearly 40 per cent in city driving and under loads such as towing. The vehicle is rated at 12.0L/9.0L/100km (city/hwy). This bests the competitions' I-5, V-6 and V-8 engines in full-size SUVs. Furthermore, based on the EnerGuide fuel economy rating and annual kilometre accumulation, the improvement in fuel economy equates to annual fuel savings of $630(at current prices).

With the new Grand Cherokee 3.0 Litre Diesel, Jeep hopes to deliver 4x4 leadership, a host of safety features, performance, great towing characteristics and good fuel economy combined in one package.

The base MSRP is $48,750, and that nets the customer a 3.0-litre Mercedes-Benz V-6 turbo diesel engine in a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo outfitted with heated leather seats, power sunroof, SIRIUS Satellite Radio and Quadra-Drive II, and standard safety equipment such as Electronic Stability Program and side-curtain air bags. Grand Cherokee Limited with the 3.0-litre engine starts at $53,775. The Overland model starts at $55,805 - just $1,725 over the HEMI-equipped Overland, and that includes the extra $225 value of SIRIUS Satellite Radio. To help customers determine their actual fuel savings, a calculating tool has been added to www.jeep.ca. All prices exclude destination charge.

The new 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine produces 215 hp @ 3,800 rpm and 376 lb.-ft. torque from 1,600 to 2,800 rpm. The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 Litre Diesel offers class-leading torque, outstanding towing capacity (3,266 kilograms) and class-leading driving range of approximately 750 kilometres.

The Quadra-Drive II Jeep 4x4 system combines the NV245 full-time transfer case with Electronic Limited Slip Differentials (ELSD) for best-in-class traction performance. The system instantly detects tire slip and smoothly distributes engine torque to the tires with traction. In some cases, the vehicle will even anticipate low traction and adjust to proactively limit or eliminate slip.
