Hi there,
I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee sport and one rear leaf on the passenger side leaf spring is broken and needs fixing for safety.
Should I buy new leaf springs for both sides or just get the one leaf fixed?
Also should I purchase new shocks, as the ones I have on are the ones from factory and are not in great shape.
I'm not sure what leaf springs I should get if I get new ones, also not sure what shocks I would need.
Does anyone know a cheap place to get springs and shocks and what I should get?
I live in Nova Scotia
I don't need anything extra special, I am looking for cheap but reliable.
I use my Jeep for daily driving, towing a 1,500lb trailer once in a while and going down dirt roads sometimes looking for fishing spots.

I'm surprised no one has yet answered you- that said- my opinion from having a '89 cheekee- if the broken leaf is not the main leaf- then just replace the broken leaf. If it is the main leaf, you should replace the main leaf on both sides.other leaf (s) can be re-used.I don't know where you are in Nova Scotia, but I know there's a couple of good spring shops in Truro. Let your fingers do the walking in the Yellow pages.You might even find what you need in a salvage yard. G'luck. Cheers

Thanks very much for getting back to me, I am going to check out the local spring shop near me and see if they could fix the leaf or if I can get cheap new ones.

Addition to what was already said you might want to look into an additional its called Add-A-Leaf they come in 1500 and 3000 lbs (that's not their weight-but what it adds to what is already there) they attach very easy to the leaf spring. Obtainable at Cdn Tire.

although my local spring shop has 2 new complete leaf springs in stock for around $161 each side.
I think I am going to go with replacing both sides with new leafs as even the good leaf spring on the one side seems like it is sagging.

Does anyone have any recommendations for decent shocks? Or should I just get the cheapest basic ones available?

For shocks for everyday driving, I favor Monroe Sensa-Trac- firm without being harsh,overall good control,and last fairly well. I use them on my Cherokee as well as our Grand Marquis and our 12 yr old Ford Taurus. Once in a while they are on sale at a good price,and they;re an easy replacement..

Thanks, I think I recall seeing them at Canadian tire on sale once in a while. I can't wait to get my Jeep back on the road :)
