Cherokee front end
Hello,
I have been working on the front end of my 95 Cherokee here in Nova Scotia, What began as a brake job and front universal joint replacement is rapidly turning into a major job. When I was knocking out the worn lower ball joint the rust on the axle housing around the the Coil suspension spring was falling off, (oh the pleasre of the east coast lol.) I can get another axle and put in or remove the axle and take it to a welding shop and get them to weld in a section of C-Section steel with a bit of tube for the coil spring to mount on. My question is- Have any of you modified your front axle housing like this and could you offer any advice or perhaps photos? If I replace it I could be down the same track in another few months, but if I weld it up it should be good for life. I can't see too mich of a problem welding a section of c section in except that the shock absorber mount is at a different height to the coil spring, so I would have to build the coil spring mount up a bit. I have worked as a mechanic for a few years but now been out of the trade for eight years. Thanks for your help. Greg |

Greg there's a couple or three sources for a weld on kit to do the job .. rubicon express makes one i believe .. it's worth going to their site and looking at the pics just for ideas to do your own .. there's the coil mounts, shock mounts, track bar, sway bar if you wanna bother oh yea .. if you do it, make sure you end up with matching axle ratios .. don't ask me how i know that |
