Re: 2.8l xj axles and gears?

well up front you have a dana 30 but it might not be a high pinion you should check cause if its not when if you do lift you jeep you could have front drive shaft problems.. as for the rear usualy its a dana 35 but the had a couple of diffrent modles it could be a custom or a standard pull of the diff cover to see if it has clips if it has clips it's the weaker axle of the two its a dana 35c
both of these axles are great for moderate wheelin but soon as you syart adding weight to the xj you will start to have problems. i pretty shure this is correct .... it depends it could have 3.55, 3.73, 4.10 depending if it has a towing package or not ... the easyist way to tell is jack up one rear tire . mark the tire at the top and mark the yolk "on the diff side" rotate the tire twice (2) and count the times your yolk passes the mark on your diff this will give you a ruff idea what gear ratio you have .... i have a 91 w sport pakage towing package it has 3.55 gears and a factory locker...i have a dana 30 high pinion up front.. my drive shaft is ujoint at diff end and a cardane at the t case i hope this has helped you out

ok thanks maybe i should have been more specific i was wondering if there was anything out of the ordinary for gears in the 2.8 I know about the dana's and the gears it doesnt depend on the tow package its the motor 4l auto has 3.55 manual is the 3.73 and the 4cyl is 4.10 tow package is a different gear in the trans for towing somtimes in the 88 and 89's it gives you a dana 44! dont mean to sound like a prick lol

A short sure fire way to find it out the easy way. Take the serial number of the vehicle and call your FRIENDLY chrysler dealer and tell him u want a build sheet for this vehicle. (its FREE) It will state everything that was originally build to this vehicle.
