Canada New Jeep Owner, from Manitoba

We just purchased a 2010 Jeep Patriot Limited and absolutely love it. It is fully loaded and we are very much enjoying playing with and figuring out all the new gadgets. Not to mention my drive on the highway to work this morning was great!!!

There is one mystery part that has us racking our brains to figure out...
Above the Rear View Window and below the Home Link and on the same consol as the front interior lights there is what appears to be a camera. It looks like the camera lense you would find on a cellphone or the webcam on a laptop. We have no clue what this is or what it does. We searched high and low in the manual and even online. It very well may not be a camera but we really have no idea what it is or what it does and are hoping someone can fill us in!

It was suggested that maybe it was a camera that displays the view of the backseat on the Nav Screen, which would be awesome as we have a toddler. But in our searching of the menu options and in the manual, we cant find anything that supports this theory.

Another theory is that maybe it is just sensor for something, but a sensor for what would be the question.

If you can enlighten me on what this thing-a-ma-jigger does or is for, it would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!!

Welcome and that thing is a sensor to automatically move the mirror if someone high beams are on behind you. Never did anything for me because the back window is so small and tinted.

Traded my 08 Patriot in for a 2012 Wrangler.
