New to Forum

I've just registered on this Canadian Jeep site. My name is Ralph and I'm an old feller, living in Moncton, N.B. Since I retired in 1998, I've tinkered with getting older vehicles, I can't afford late 40's / 50's or 60's, so I've concentrated on 70's & 80's. At present, my stable of old iron consists of a '76 Mercury Cougar, all original and with less than 17,000 miles, from Vancouver; a '77 Ford Granada Ghia with 60,000+ miles from California; a '79 Lincoln Versailles with 39,000miles from Florida.. Previously, owned a '73 Mercury Montego MX, with only 11,000miles from Ohio which I sold to a charming lady locally three years ago., also had a very sporty '75 Cougar XR7 from Ontario.with 35,000 miles, also sold three years ago.
In 2004, I bought a near perfect 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis with 45,000 miles , and then in the spring of 2005- I spotted an ad for a 1989 Cherokee for sale on Vancouver Island, a two owner unit , largely original with all service records, but .it had a lot more miles than the rest of my other vehicles.176,000 ks. The ad struck me in it's simplicity and aparent honesty. So, my better half and I flew out to Victoria, at first sight I was sold on this Cherokee. Not perfect, but very solid, clean , but unlike the Jeeps in the Maritimes, it was totally rust free. Closer examination & first drive identified totally shot rear shocks and the associated noises /rattles.
So a quick trip to Canadian Tire and new sensaTracs, and hit the road for New Brunswick.
And, well it served, not even a hiccups on this cross country trip. Returned 23mpg overall. I still calculate gas consumption in mpgs. We found, it comfortable, solid, good handling, and a real pleasure. We dubbed it the "White Knight". Now, after 6 1/2 years , with the Maritime climate taking its toll, it now has very minimal rust., and has required very little repairs. - alternator, muffler, A/C conversion to R134.
It's been a joy to own, and use. I plan on keeping it as long as I can, so now, I'm a little kinder to it.
And it nearly cured my urge to add to the fold, except in 2009, I added another Mercury Grand Marquis, 1989 from Ohio with 54,000miles.

I'd like to post pictures, if someone would tell me how. Cheers, everyone.

Great interesting story of all the vehicles you have owned and operated. Like those pics you have in your profile and of course the 89 Cherokee, as I had a 2nd hand one for some 5 years until the great fire, but she did me well and went where no other vehicle (I ever owned) could go.Of course the best are WHITE..
