looking to buy, but not sure
I have been a Jeep lover for as long as I can remember, and I now have the opportunity to fulfill my dream and buy a new one. But Im also the kind of gus who likes to research my purchases, and according to Consumer Reports the Jeep rates the lowest of lows. So I figured that there is no better place than here to get expert opinions. What are the pros and cons of owning a new jeep? i.e reliability, fuel economy, ride comfort, road noise, etc

Ride Comfort; 100x better, it's not to rough it has plenty of body roll and going over the rough stuff is kinda fun! Fuel Eco: I've had it upto 21mpg, but there are some engine tunes out there that I have heard about that can improve that number by upto 7%, and increase power also. For a 6 Cylinder thats really not that bad. With my 50/50 Driving highway and city i am getting around 19.1mpg or 12.1L/100km. Road Noise: now im sure your gonna be all "it's a jeep it makes tons of noise" well compaired to my civic this thing is down right civilized, it's actually pretty quiet. Transitioning from 80km/h to 100km/h theres a signifigant difference in wind but as far as tires the stock ones are great comfort personally. Reliability: this is the sticky one.. my clutch is squeaking.. also i havn't put alot of KMs on it. But from what I've heard these things have more ticks then a lime disease research facility. My thinking is probably because everything is done against the norm, and the parts are all kinda bolt on and nothing is really uniform. But i guess thats why jeeps are jeeps i guess. Mechanically I've heard good things, I've heard people having everything fall off the stupid thing and it'll still start and get you out of the ditch so relyability is in the eye of the beholder. Pro: It's fun, makes alot of noise. I love the 6 speed i love being up really high and the removable top is the bomb! Dash feels like a solid, has little things like lights in your cup holders makes me happy and nothing really feels super cheapy. Tons of power, it feels like a rocket ship sometimes but that might just be me. Con: Yeah it uses up gas but im sure once i get it tuned it will help out. Clutch pedal is squeaking.. You gotta slam the doors pretty hard, the jam won't line up if you don't. Theres no cover for the gas cap you gotta get one aftermarket if you don't want someone to theif your gas. Theres no security for the hood ether, there just rubber latches need aftermarket locks for that too if you want them. Common #1 Mod is that theres no grill behind the grill.. so theres an opening for rocks to hit your radiator so that should have come with it out of factory of course. But thats just my two cents! |

I can answer this.. I just bought a new jeep. So far I've almost 600kms on it, and I am coming from a 2 door honda civic DX-G. So everything will be compaired to that.

If your not stuck on owning a "jeep", you got options you know. Yes this is a jeep forum but it really is depending on what you see yourself doing 10 years down the road. Are you really into aftermarket stuff? Do you like to upgrade your car alot, then the Jeep is defiantly for you. But if your looking for something a little more stock and a little less dramatic look at the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the Nissan Xterra. Both very good vehicles (Xterra has a Pro4X model good offroad) But the jeeps are really for people who like to modify and customize and personalize. |

I agree! I really want to keep my first jeep as long as I have had the vehicle I'm driving now. It is 12 years old and has 270 000 km It is an Aztec 2001 and my wife had purchased it new and I really didn't like it but now I love it. I'm hoping the jeep will be the same.
