Undercoating
Wondering if anyone has pulled their carpet out of their Jeep to spray or roll on bedliner to cover the entire floor and cargo area. What product did you like? Did it go on easy?
I know on any Jeeps I had before the carpet holds quite a bit of moisture and eventually the insides will look pretty bad after a few years. Not sure if I will get the thicker stuff and run without carpet all together. Likely the only thing I would notice running without carpet is the change in road noise above 80 km/h. Any insight on this would be helpful, thanks. |
Re: Undercoating
I ran with my carpet until the stink became unbearable LOL. I tore up the carpet, primed the floor and used Rocker Guard to temporarily get me by until I could get it sprayed professionally. Thing is though that was almost 2 years ago! The rocker guard has held up better than I thought it would and is still stuck to the floor without any problems thus far. I used a good quality self etching primer and regular black rubberized Can Tire rocker guard, paintable kind not the tar crap.

Re: Undercoating
I'm guessing the rubberized one in the can would be the best to start with. I'm going to start with that too until I get it done with a spray type. How many cans did you end up using and did you do all the way to the rear door?

Re: Undercoating
my ZJ ended up using just over 3 cans on the inside, and 5 cans underneath (got above tranny, tcase and gas tank aswell)
only drove the jeep once since the spray and it seemed much quieter, didn't have to turn up the stereo as loud to drown out the tires... |
Re: Undercoating
I only did the driver and front passenger areas seeing how that was the high use area, I only think I used 1 can, and then touched it up with another 1/2 can.

Re: Undercoating
i did my whole interior in my tj. took 4 cans. peels like crap, but i used paintable rubberized so really its my fault....alot quieter tho

Re: Undercoating
Peels? I haven't had a problem at all, Maybe its because I sprayed it with flat black primer between coats.

Re: Undercoating
yeah some of the sprays require you to do more prep work, such as scuffing of the surface... this is why i glance at the instructions and ignore the ones that require more work :alcoholic:

Re: Undercoating
I also tore my carpets out when the stink became unbearable..I am going to be doing the complete tub with a product called Monstaliner,I've read all the reviews, talked to several people who have actually installed the product.Called the manufacturer and asked a ton of questions.Oh yeah I've also compared several other products and this one keeps coming up the favorite. When I do order it,I'll post a step by step install procedure for you.
Here's a link to their site http://www.monstaliner.com/ |
Re: Undercoating
ok so peels was a poor choice of wording. it scratches easily, well maybe i just put stuff back in too soon. im impatient:lol_hitting:

Re: Undercoating
i used duplicolour roll on liner seemed to hold up well in the rear but not so well under drivers feet, only lasted about a year,4 yrs in the back still looks good
|
Re: Undercoating
Personally I don't think lining the tub with any of these products is a good idea in a salt rich environment.
If you start having a rust issue you won't know about it until it's a disaster. I'll stick with my carpets. I can pull them out and clean them, and I can see any rust problems that need to be fixed before they turn into major rot. |
Re: Undercoating
