Driver apologizes on Facebook after Edmonton woman killed in Jeep stunt | CTV News

A man who says he's the driver of a Jeep involved in a stunt demonstration that killed a 20-year-old woman in Edmonton has apologized, saying the tragedy should never have happened.
"I have never been so terrified in my life and I am soooooooooo sorry, I know there will be a ton of hatred and speculation regarding what happened, and I accept that," Craig Supernault wrote on his Facebook page this weekend.
"The only thing I can say from an incidental standpoint, is that that jeep should NOT have moved........period all the brakes were engaged and the clutch was at the floor. It SHOULD NOT HAVE MOVED!!!!"

A Jeep lost control and struck a spectator at an Edmonton fundraising event on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
On Saturday, a candlelight light vigil was held to remember the young woman who was killed earlier that day at a fundraising event for the Edmonton Food Bank called “Jeeps Go Topless.”
Police said the woman was standing on top of a car when a male driver of a jeep had driven up onto the tires of another vehicle in a climbing demonstration. The man turned off the Jeep’s engine and posed for pictures. As he dismounted, the vehicle lurched forward, flipped on its side and struck the woman.
Ally Babiuk, who was standing 10 feet away from the victim, said she is still in shock after the tragedy.
"It was scary. We weren’t expecting anything like this," she told CTV Edmonton at the vigil. "I thought (the driver) just hit the other guy’s Jeep."
After the woman was struck, bystanders rushed to perform CPR on her. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Edmonton police Insp. Chad Tawfik called the incident “traumatizing.” He said police are trying to determine what might have caused the Jeep to lose control.
Investigators are also trying to see if any witnesses took videos of the stunt.

Wow ok.. someone is lying. Can't turn off a vehicle then have it go crazy on it's own. If it lurched forward as he got out, I would say more or less the vehicle was still running he got off the clutch and it hopped really bad. It's a crappy accident for sure, but I mean the guy needs to take some responsibility here.

My thoughts exactly. Waiting to see the effect it's going to have on the jeep community in the area.
This happened to people in a club I am in and I can say it's a sin for sure wouldn't wish something like this to happen to my worst enemy.

Very sad indeed. I can't imagine the effects on your community, NathanM

The first article I read on this from CTV Edmonton was objective and unbiased - an actual news story. Day after of course all of the negative publicity shows up and Internet personalities decrying everything and attacking our sport because of a single accident. Close timing to that woman who was killed when some lifted Ford ran over her Buick (driver was asleep), and now the widower is on a crusade against lifted vehicles.

just like gun control. Bad guy shoots another bad guy and everyone gets up against hunters and sportsman. Now the Liberals will call for BAN on jeeps, trucks, golf carts and anything thats moving on wheels.
