Just purchased '04 jeep tj - need help

to anyone who can help me out and answer a few questions for me thank you ! I am 17, just purchased my first vehicle ('04 Jeep TJ Sport with 50,000 km on it) and of course i'm no professional when it comes to these yet. Taking the doors off, i read about it and it seems very easy, but there are no mirrors once these are taken off correct ? Is this illegal, and can i get pulled over for that? Driving with the windshield down, is that against the law ? And driving with the doors off, is that against the law as well and can I get charged for any of the above mentioned reasons ?

Other then that, removing the hard top seems pretty straight forward, as well as removing the soft top.. alrighty thanks to anyone who can answer these for me !

HI! WELCOME TO THE JEEP FAMILY:banana:, you have made one of the most important decision in your life:D (joking) and a good one. You need side mirrors- Yes you can remove the doors because it was made to do so, it is not a modification to the vehicle, also if removed, you will need to remove a fuse so the dome light does not stay lighten. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2626975/Jeep-TJ-2004-Wrangler-Owners-Manual
Would be a good download, see page page 82. As for the windshield, on the highway not a good ideal, I'm not sure, done it and never had any problem but?
A Yes....WAVE TO US other jeepers.....:lol_hitting:

door removal is easy ....
windshield lowered is another story if you have all the original equipment on .

still can be done with patience but be advise that over 80kmh it`s quite windy

i do lower my windshield whenever i go into a 50 kmh zone or offroad butmine is so easy ( 30 seconds ) try that on a TJ.....

welcome into this group ...youll love your jeep ! been jeepin since 1976 ,so!

When I bought my Jeep, I had the same questions.. I went to the Cop Headquarters and asked them those questions. Check to local Cops see what they say!

Here in Alberta you must have EITHER Side Mirrors OR Rearview. Both are installed by the factory to cover their butts. With that said if you have the doors off and windshield down you are in violation, at least in Alberta you would be.

There have lots of write up on people who made mounts for their mirrors once the doors are off. Some use harley mirrors, some use bicycle mirrors. I

Good Luck !! Congratulations, I took nearly 10 yrs before I bought my Jeep.
Remember the Jeep Wave !!

You might want to check out your local laws. Here in BC it is illegal to run with the doors removed on a TJ. The CJ years were the only ones you can run with the doors removed here in BC

You'll need a side mirror for sure to stay legal with the doors off.
Bicycle mirror and some basisc hardware works just fine.

Check out jeepkings.ca In Ontario you do not need side mirrors, if, your rearview mirror has an unobstructed view. I run no doors no mirrors all summer. Also do a google search for the Ontario HTA (Highway Traffic Act). If you go out of province or to the US, it is always good to know their applicable laws for Jeeps. BC is very strict
