Jeep Compass Rotten Sub-frames

Just wanted to give other Compass owners a heads-up. The front and rear sub-frames of my Compass, purchased new in 2007, rotted to the point where something snapped off the front sub-frame. When I first heard an unusual sound from the front end, I immediately made an appointment with my mechanic and parked my Jeep until that day. I very carefully drove it to his garage to find out what the problem was, and later received a call that my front sub-frame was completely rotten. The car was declared unsafe to drive and I was forced to fix it immediately. While replacing the front, they inspected the rear sub-frame and it too was rusted full of holes. Both sub-frames (along with a host of other suspension parts), had to be replaced. $3000 later, it was finally safe to drive again. It's in tip-top shape again now. I contacted Chrysler Canada to see if they would reimburse me for any of the repairs and was told it wouldn't be covered by the expired warranty. Only upon close inspection of the sub-frames could the rot be seen. For peace of mind, get yours inspected. Don't take a chance and find yourself driving an unsafe Jeep.

That's a sad story you just told.

I'm really sorry to hear your issues with your compass, I hope your going to get some sort of rust prevention done now?

Hello,

I am a 2007 Jeep Compass owner with a rotted out sub- frame. The same has happened while driving, a loud snap and the front suspension fell through. I have only had the car a year, and I even got some rust proofing done before I drove it off the lot. I also have owned and own a Wrangler, one for over 12 years and this has never happened. I wonder if this a common problem in a design flaw, and once I get this fixed if it will happen again in another few years. This is very sad for any Jeep owner.

That's a nasty thing to happen to a relatively new vehicle. I have a few friends with those things, I think I'd better take a look at them.

Hello,
I just found out today that my 2008 Jeep Compas with low km's also had a completly rusted out rear subframe! Very disappointing to say the least as I truly love the vehicle!!

2009 Jeep Compass Limited - less than 70,000 Kms - undercoated by the dealer when new. Just been told the front sub-frame, some call it a cradle - Chrysler dealer calls it a K frame - is badly corroded, the frame on my Jeep is rusting out. It must be replaced - it's a safety issue. Frame and sub frame rust and corrosion have been a problem in some Chrysler cars and some Jeep models for years - Google shows dozens of complaints...
Dealer says no support from Chrysler on this. Beware!

Same thing happend to mine - and it was undercoated by the dealer when new. Low Kms rusted out subframe about a grand to replace. If you are thinking about rust prevention treatments make sure you get the frame and suspension bits done - Dealer service told me my undercoating/rustproofing only covered the sheet metal. So for this problem dealer undercoating does not help.

have a 2007 Patriot just got a letter from jeep that they have found the problem and that I am covered till 2017 for any thing like you have talked about and that I can get my jeep checked each year for free at any dealer I like .
May want to recheck with them as to why you were not covered
