"Niagara Regional Police Service Off Road Vehicle Initiative

The Niagara Regional Police Service is currently conducting an enforcement initiative targeting the unlawful and unsafe operation of All Terrain Vehicles and Off Road Vehicles in the Welland, Wainfleet, Port Colborne and Pelham areas. This initiative is to ensure safety for all riders and members of the public. The initiative is also in response to ongoing complaints regarding off road vehicle drivers showing no regard for following the rules of law, including trespassing and causing damage to private property. The Niagara Regional Police Service is strictly enforcing all relevant legislation including the Off Roads Vehicle Act, the Highway Traffic Act, the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, the Trespass to Property Act and the Criminal Code. The Niagara Regional Police Service will remain active in this enforcement to ensure the safety of all riders, pedestrians and local residents in these areas. As a result of this initiative, the NRPS has already issued one hundred and thirty-five Provincial Offences tickets, twenty-two court summonses and arrested one person for a criminal code offence. This is an open ended initiative and will run indefinitely to address complaints and to educate riders regarding the proper use of off road vehicles. The charges involved include offences by ATV and dirt bike riders. The most common offences are: 1. Trespassing on private property such as railway allotments, parks and walking/cycling trails. 2. Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway No Insurance. When an "off road" vehicle is driven on a roadway, it becomes a "motor vehicle" and the owner would be liable for a fine of not less than$5000.00 and not more than $25,000.00. An off road vehicle insured with off road insurance is uninsured when on a roadway. ATV riders should be aware that the only lawful location for use is on their own private property or private property which they have been given express permission to be on by the property owner.

Default Re: trails are being shut down:(

That trail has been off limits for a couple years now. They are only cracking down on it. Try Canadian Offroad sites to ask for info on where to and where NOT to wheel in your area.

The last thing we need is people wheeling in off limits areas, it just gives the rest of us a bad wrap. People still consider us hill billies because we like offroading and when we mention it they picture us drinking out the back of our pickups with confederate flags in the window while we bash down trees and barrel through bushes. Of course those people do exist and sadly there are quite a few of them residing in Brockville but thats why we have OF4WD to lobby for those of us who wheel legally.

Sorry bud, pretty much nothing From Kingston to Parry sound heading south west in ontario.
