blower motor resistor keeps burning out

My '02 GC with AZC keeps blowing the heater motor resistor, I've gone thru 3 this past winter. Has anyone else had this problem? and what was the fix? Any Ideas?

The resister uses air passing over it to keep it cool. Debree, such as leaves gets in there somehow and restricts the airflow over it, causing it to overheat and burn out. Remove blower motor and get hand in there to clean out the ducting. The other thing that happens is the electrical contact gets loose, due to age or heat and once loose it needs replacing. New connectors are available from various sources.

Thanks but Ive checked that.. no obstructions, each time I've changed the resistor its lasted a couple of weeks then quit.. Ive replaced the blower motor after the second one burnt out.. didn't help, I am beginning to think its the controller its self

It sounds like the electrical connector, check it very carefully or for what it costs, change it anyway.

after the original one burnt out I had to change the resistor and the connector because of the melt, I replaced it with the same model... it burnt out, I replaced it with the upgrade model.. it lasted a couple of weeks and quit... although this time the heater motor is stuck in high mode and won't shut off even after the ignition is turned off both times earlier the blower motor wouldn't run at all

Don't know what else to suggest. I'll see if I can find the diagrams and see if that suggests anything.

rnorwegian,

Might be time to get over to a Jeep store to see if this is something they can pin point.
