All-Time 4WD questions

Hi All,
I just bought my first Jeep. It's a 93 Grand Wagoneer (ZJ) and it has the 5.2L V8 auto trans with all time 4wd. My questions are about how the 4wd works. When I first bought it the driver info center would say to service the 4WD switch. I unplugged some wire connections on the transfer case, checked the wires and plugged it all back in and haven't had the warning since, but it got me thinking (never good).
How reliable is my 4wd? If the electronics let me down will I be stuck somewhere in 2WD? If I put it in low range, will it lock it in 4WD?
I'd just like to know some details on how the system works and what I should know in case it fails.
Any info on this buggy pertaining to weaknesses to look out for and tips on how to make it a better trail runner will really be appreciated.
I can use all the help I can get. I'm a real novice.
Thanks.

Re: All-Time 4WD questions

I wish i knew more , hows the electronics controlling 4wd.

I though its manually switched.

I couldn't see it switching. I'm interested in knowing also.

Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT

Well, I can't say enough good things about the Radial Rover RVXT tires that I fitted to my 1999 Sahara. The tires are all-season but also carry the severe winter service "Snowflake on the Mountain" rating. My gravel farm road got hit with over 12" of snow this weekend and the old Jeep negotiated the entire 1/2 mile in 2WD with no drama whatsoever. Ditto for the snow covered public roads. The RVXT isn't a serious off-road tire, but it merits consideration if your primary concern is being able to handle wintry weather.
