Question What Size Tire? 2002 Jeep TJ 4.0L

I've got a 2002 Jeep TJ with a 4.0L I've recently purchased a 4 inch Rough Country Suspension lift and I'm wondering what the best tire size is. I am considering 35x12.5x15. Is this a good idea?

Unfortunately I cannot say by experience but from what I have been reading over the years and most of the TJs in my Jeep club with 4" lift are on 33s. I do believe you can fit 35s with aftermarket fenders and probably a body lift on top of your 4" suspension lift.

Question Re: What Size Tire? 2002 Jeep TJ 4.0L

Im pretty sure i will clear the tires with the lift and i also bought flat fender flares which should provide an extra 2" of clearance. what i am more concerned about is that if i have tires of that size, will i expect problems in my front end? Also another question was that im unsure if i can run 15" rims? would there be a problem with that?

You will clear no problem with the fender flares. You will probably rub a bit when flexed since I do and I've running a 4" suspension lift with 2" body lift and rub my front tires into the fender flare depending on how I flex. 15" rims are not a problem on the 35s but if you're buying new rims now and considering possibly giong larger in the future anyhting over a 35 will not fit a 15" rim.

Front end issues that you may encounter are with the stock track bar if your lift kit doesnt come with a different one then I'd suggest getting an aftermarket adjustale track bar. Also you will need longer sway bar links. I'm assuming that you're already running quick disconnects or that your kit has them included.

Thanks a lot, this is good to know. i think i might go with 33's though. I only have 3.73 gearing and from reading the forums its clear to see i wont have any power left and my budget doesn't allow any gearing. As for 33's, I'm sure my tires will clear but how is the power loss?

The 33's will clear fine with your 4" lift you will need to change the backspacing on the rims depending on the width of the tires. 1.25 or 1.50 spacers work with existing rims. I agree that power may be problem with 3.73 ratio.

I have 33's (285/75XR16) on my '06 Rubi with 4.10 ratio and my experience with 33s are that will be big with the 3.73 ratio. You may in fact find you will want to do a gear swap. Even with the 4.10s in my setup, I think I would be better off with 4.55s but mine is not that bad but 35s would be out of the question on my present setup anne more so on ours.

Panic???? Forget about that word.. This is what I have 4" suspension lift (Superlift) 33x12.5r15 Mickey BAJA mud tires on 8" offset rims. The bump stops u can either change them or just adjust them, so as not to rub ur shocks but how often do u completely turn on either side. 35" tires will fit and clear your wheel wells perfectly. They will stick out so getting wider wheel covers may help you from getting a ticket. Gears of 3.73 is fine, don't change to 4.11 the difference will not be noticeable and costs for no good reason.. if u want to do hard core offroading later down the road then go for 4.56 or 4.88's but remember if u ever decide to change back to say some 235's tires u will find the rpm's extremely high on the hwy running say 4.56/4.88's normally when one goes to this set up it becomes a trailer queen....
