I will be storing my 2012 JK Rubicon coupe this winter. So far I have looked at several winter covers to put on while it sits in the garage. The three full covers I have priced are from 4 wheel parts in Burlington.
1. smittybilt
2. Rugged Ridge
3. Covercraft

I don't know much about covers as this will be the first vehicle I have ever stowed for the winter. Can someone let me know what to look out for ?

The winter is one of my reasons for getting a Jeep.

If your storing it inside get a cover with fewer layers. It is only really going to help keep dust off it so don't waste your money. If you have to store it outside, get a good one with as many layers as possible. Look for one that breaths well. Also, make sure you keep the snow off of it. Snow is really heavy and all that weight is bad for the springs. Make sure you put fuel stabilizer in it. After you put the stabilizer in the tank, drive around a bit, get it up into the fuel lines and injectors. Fuel stabilizer is the most important thing you need to do for winter storage. Also, mouse proof it, even if it is in the garage. Bounce sheets work well in the vehicle and they smell nice. Moth ***** work well under it, but I wouldn't use moth ***** inside the garage. They stink! Start it and get it hot every week to 2 weeks. Keep the oil moving around and keep oil on the top half of the engine. Store it with a full tank. Half a tank will condensate more moisture in the tank. The list goes on and on. I have stored quite a few vehicles for quite a few winters. You will find it is quite a bit of work to store it. Neglect means maintenance. Maintenance is expensive. Don't be lazy, put in the effort through the winter. I have made many mistakes and been lazy myself. Vehicles tend to kinda rot from the inside out when you don't drive them and don't do the required maintenance. If you want more tips PM me and I can give you the checklist that I use for myself. A couple months back I saw a YJ Laredo for sale that was just immaculate. It was factory right down to the lug nuts. You ever see an old jeep that is factory fresh? They are hard to find, but they are out there. How do you figure that happens?

Something to ponder; The new Jeep is coming out in '18 right? I have heard rumors that they may be getting rid of the front solid axle as well as, they may be getting rid of the removable roof and have a large moon roof instead. They may be making it uni-body as well and getting rid of the frame. It is also supposed to be rounder and even more wizzy. Here is something cool though, they might have on-board air as a factory option. But, wasn't the liberty just a short wheelbase, uni-body, round jeep that didn't have a solid front axle, wasn't a convertible and was real wizzy inside? Hmmm...

The JK may be the very last of a long heritage. My vote is, we need a few people out there taking care of these things. So someone can find a 15 year old JK, remember those? They were the last with the square body and front axle. And it will be the same condition as a 2 year old Jeep, and it's a Rubi to boot!
