T-Case Swap

Re: T-Case Swap
I've been looking into it myself... and it seems like if you have the double cardian front driveshaft, its a easier swap... the input shaft of the transfer case has to be swapped, but if that 242 has already been swapped to a 545RFE you should be a very simple swap

Re: T-Case Swap
Thanks for the response, Crazy, What about the electronics, if any? Did Jeep change the number of shaft splines from one V8 to another? I've had my WJ for 3 months now, it is more electronic than my ZJ, therefore the questions. As mentioned, the input/output shafts on the Select-Trac have been swapped. The front drive shaft had to be lengthened(CV joint to U-jiont shaft swap).

Re: T-Case Swap
Well if it was a ZJ it had a 46RE... which uses 23 spline, so long as the length is correct... should be good to go...the rear driveshaft may be the issue, the quadradrive is 27 spine, a 242J is 32 splines... so the driveshaft would be the issue, and i forget if the ZJ driveshaft would be different lengths...
The electronics shouldnt be an issue as far as i know...

Re: T-Case Swap
Optimism abounds. So far the Quadra-Drive runs well at130k, the old Quadra-trac lasted 250k. I`ve got a while to go.I`m guessing fuel savings might be too marginal to do this swap now.

Thanks Frank. One of these days, just from Crazy`s threads, it looks as though I`ll have to count splines. But Im saving your reply!!! PS I`m not a snob, I just don`t log on often. I will answer eventually!!!!! Bryan

Re: T-Case Swap
I see that this is an old thread ….. But the output yolk to the rear driveshaft IS NOT an issue … even if the spline count is different …. All of the articles i've read about this swap, they state that you retain the yolk on the donor 242J case and split the original drive shaft at the u-joint … you will have to only swap the driveshafts from a donor vehicle to compensate for the length differences ….. …… As soon as the weather gets better I will be doing this EXACT swap from my disfunctional 247J to a 242J … I have since aquired a couple semi dead WJ's to do this job …. LOL …. I will log the job complete with pics ….. Cheers …..
