Air bag warning light
Started the xj today and have a constant air bag warning lamp.the xj is a 97 4.0 liter.
I have also had a problem starting the jeep you some times need to press the accelerator pedal or pump the pedal to get the jeep started. I would appreciate any help,or ideas

Re: Air bag warning light
When you first start it does the air bag light flash a code or does it just come on solid and stay on? The first thing I would do is plug in a scanner and see if it will read any fault codes. Some scanners will also read air bag codes. Either way I doubt the two issues are related.

when you first start it the air bag light will come on then go off then come back on and stay on. The starting issue was happening a week or so before hand. Being that this has been an intermittent problem I am going to replace the crank sensor and see what happens. The air bag issue leaves me scratching my head.

I would plug a scanner into it before I started throwing parts at it. If the scanner reads live data look at the figures from the air temp sensor and engine temp sensor, if the computer is seeing the wrong temperature it will cause starting issues. No idea about the air bag.

Sorry to hear you're having these issues.
I would agree with oldfart and suggest having the vehicle scanned, your Jeep store will be a great place to start if you don't have this equipment.
Your dealer is also a great resource for the airbag concern, not something you'd want to let go too long considering this system has safety implications if there is something that needs to be repaired.
All the best!

Re: Air bag warning light
my air bag light comes on & off many times. it is VERY intermittent. 99.9% of the time when it does happen is when I turn left. I know what it is . there is a issue in the clock spring. you too might have a broken or loose wire in the clock spring. it is a Chrysler know issue!
